Perfect

"Perfect" is a True Faith song from their debut album with the same name. It is a groundbreaking hit from this Filipino rock band that made them popular in the Philippine mainstream audience. This song was first heard in the airwaves in 1993 through a demo tape submitted to DWRT, a Manila based radio station. This version features clanking guitars and longing vocals in the manner of New Wave bands like the Lotus Eaters. Perfect You are...perfect You are...perfect Changing hues, the change of seasons Will leave you no clues As desperation spreads within a broken soul Life leaves you feeling dead But just like Mathis singing On a low-down Sunday afternoon; The blues split apart all my senses depart As I see you come into view Baby, as I look into your eyes Ooh, you're perfect Judging from the way you make me high Ooh, it's worth it Perfect... it's everything you are to me Perfect... and everything I am to you You are... perfect You are... perfect Crossroads and b...

" Kapayapaan " is a reggae song by Tropical Depression, a Filipino musical group started in 1991. This song is included in their 1995 album with the same name and one of their popular hits. It talks about peace as the title suggests ( kapayapaan is a Tagalog word for peace). Laklak

" Laklak " is an alternative rock song by Filipino band Teeth. The song is included in their double-platinum eponymous album in 1995. " Laklak " reached number 1 for 12 weeks in LA-105, a former alternative rock station in Manila, and was voted as Song of the Year at 1995 NU 107 Rock Awards. "Laklak" was re-recorded to fit the mainstream audience. The lyrics of the song are somewhat controversial because it talks about alcoholism in the youth. Although, it can also viewed as a way to avoid alcoholism because the song shows how too much drinking can make a person looked like a police who has a big tummy. In 2002, a cover version by Gloc 9 and Dong Abay is included in the soundtrack of Videoke King , a Filipino film, which stars Robin Padilla and Pops Fernandez. This version of "Laklak" is included in the self-titled album of Gloc 9. Laklak Nagsimula sa patikimtikim Pinilit kong gustuhin Bisyo'y nagsimulang lumalim Kaya ngayon ang hirap t...

Your Love

"Your Love" is a song originally from the Filipino rock band Alamid. This rock ballad, which is included in their eponymous album in 1994, is probably their most popular song along with "China Eyes" and "Sama-Sama". It is a love song that talks about a person who fills the void of another person, thus making the person complete. Filipino singer Erik Santos covered this song in his 2006 remake album, which is also named Your Love . Your Love You're the one that never lets me sleep To my mind, down to my soul you touch my lips You're the one that I can't wait to see With you here by my side I'm in ecstasy (Refrain) I am all alone without you My days are dark without a glimpse of you But now that you came into my life I feel complete The flowers bloom, my morning shines And I can see (Chorus) Your love is like the sun That lights up my whole world I feel the warmth inside Your love is like the river That flows down through my veins I feel th...

Inihaw

" Inihaw " is a 2006 song by Filipino Rock group Siakol. It is included in their seventh studio album Sa Kabilang Mundo . The whole duration of song asks questions to the listeners about cruelty and things that commonly feared such as ghosts and dead people rising from the dead. Despite asking these questions that seems negative, it is done in a humorous way. The title of the song "Inihaw" (Tagalog word for "barbecue" or "grilled") looks like unrelated to the theme of the song but it could probably related to the frequently asked question in the song, which is " Nakatikim ka na ba ng lupit na humahagupit? " (translated in English as "Have you tasted cruelty that whips?"). It seems to suggest that the taste of whipping cruelty is barbecue.

Walang Yamang Mas Hihigit Sa 'yo

" Walang Yamang Mas Hihigit Sa 'yo " is a Tagalog song by Filipino rock group Cueshé. This song is included in their repackaged Back to Me album. It is used as a soundtrack in GMA Network's Asian Treasures , a television show in the fantasy-action (better known as telefantasya ) genre, which stars Filipino actors Angel Locsin and Robin Padilla.

Sige

" Sige " is a song by Filipino rock group 6 Cycle Mind on their 2004 Album Permission to Shine . It is a song about a barkada (gang) doing usual their drinking sessions to forget reality and their problems. This song (together with the band and Filipina actress Katrina Halili) was featured in a commercial of Tanduay T5, a local brand of rhum, with the lyrics slightly altered. The title track "Sexy" on Joey de Leon's Joey to the World 2 album is a parody of this song.

Line to Heaven

"Line to Heaven" is a mid-1990s hit by the Introvoys, a Filipino rock group. Paco Arespacochaga, drummer of Introvoys, wrote this song for his mother who died on a car accident. Paco’s son from ex-wife Filipino actress and singer Geneva Cruz was named Heaven after this song. Line to Heaven Heaven knows I’ve done no wrong I only want to sing this song to you Why did it have to end this way Only a fool like me could say to you that… (Chorus) If I ever had a line to heaven I swear I’d call you there And if I ever had a line to heaven I swear I’ll be there tonight. Now where would I be without you now I have to make it through this life somehow Only time will tell me so All the things I need to know somehow. (Repeat Chorus except last word) (Bridge) How do I find the answers All the questions I’ve been hiding inside And all the fun and the laughters We shared all have to stand beside. (Repeat Chorus 2 times)

All I Need

"All I Need" is a 2003 song by now defunct Filipino rock group Barbie's Cradle, which was led by Barbie Almalbis who is now on her solo career. It was nominated for "Best Music Video" in the 10th NU Rock Awards, a yearly awards event given by Manila-based radio station NU 107. Although, the video of the song was lost to 7 Foot Jr's "Daisy". The song seems to be a religious or spiritual song because the title refers to a person who only needs God and believes that army of angels are in his or her heart. All I Need Inside of my heart Is an army of angels Just ’cause I let you go Oh, volunteers they are here To love and help me Only ’cause I said no (Chorus 1) To the killer eyes That invite me to do things I would have to lie about And it’s better now, we are safe You know I love you more from far away Now that all I need is God Hey, little girls Do you still have things that haunt you Are all the words I say unclear You know I was there Just a while ...

Kaleidoscope World

"Kaleidoscope World" is rap song by Filipino rapper Francis M. from the album Freeman that was released in 1995. In the unrehearsed introduction of this hit from the Master Rapper, he sucked a helium-filled balloon and offered some of it to his daughter Maxene Magalona. Paying homage to The Beatles 1966 song "Here, There & Everywhere", this hit features three distinct guitarists - Perf De Castro of Rivermaya, Olrac and Noel Mendez and, in 1995, won an Awit award for "Best Produced Record" of the year. The song tackles on diversity amongst people, which have different social status, physical features, opinions, preferences etc. It compares those differences to a toy called kaleidoscope that even if there are different colors and hues, it still a “beautiful view”, implying that we should respect each other differences and freedoms. In 2004, Francis M collaborated with Pinoy Rock group Parokya ni Edgar in the live album Inuman Sessions Vol. 1 ., and rappe...

Esem

"Esem" is a mid-1990s hit from Filipino rock group Yano, which is included on their eponymous album. The song is a reference to SM City North Edsa, the very first super mall established by SM Prime Holdings, in Quezon City, Philippines. This mall is one of the favorite tambayan (hangout) of some University of the Philippines students, which members of Yano (Dong Abay and Eric Gancio) belong. In this song, they recount their experiences while loitering inside the mall without any money to buy things except for transportation fare and two cigarettes. It shows the true iskolar ng bayan (scholars of the nation), who strive hard to study with their little allowances.

Habang May Buhay

"Habang May Buhay" is composed by Wency Cornejo, lead vocalist for Filipino rock group of the early 1990s After Image, for his mother GMA Network newscaster Mel Tiangco. This song is included in the second album of After Image Tag-araw, Tag-ulan , which is the group's bestselling album. Donna Cruz made a cover of this song as well as a version by Jaya with Regine Velasquez. Habang May Buhay Nais kong mabuhay Sa haba ng panahon Kung ito'y lilipas Na ika'y kapiling ko Ang aking buhay Ang aking buhay sa yo'y ibibigay Tangi kong panalangin Ay pagsamo mo Kailan ma'y di magmaliw Ang apoy sa puso ko Habang may buhay Habang may buhay Hangga't ang dugo ko ay dumadaloy Sa iyo lamang iaalay Ang aking buhay Ang aking buhay Sa yo'y ibibigay Kung tayo'y magwawalay Ako'y mabibigo Di na nanaisin pa Ituloy ang buhay ko Habang may buhay habang may buhay Hangga't ang dugo ko ay dumadaloy Sa iyo lamang iaalay Ang aking buhay Ang aking buhay Sa yo'y ib...

Harana

"Harana" (Tagalog for "Seranade") is one of Parokya ni Edgar's biggest hit. In 1999, this song got an award from MTV Video Music Awards in the "Southeast Asia Viewer's Choice Awards" category. It seems that there is some kind of irony (or humor) in this song because their doing the harana (serenade) in formal barong (a traditional Filipino garment) with the informal maong (jeans). This song was originally written by Filipino singer Tony Lambino and ended up to this Filipino alternative rock band. In 2002, Parokya ni Edgar made a full version of this song with the following addition: Uso pa ba ang harana? Good evening, puwede ba hong mangharana?

Balita

"Balita" (Tagalog for "News") is a song by Filipino Folk Rock group Asin. The song was written during the regime of Former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos and it has a strong political message against the repression and violence during the Marcos era. The whole song is written in Tagalog except for the last verse, which is in Visayan. This song serves as sample in Black Eyed Peas' "The Apl Song", which included in their album Elephunk . Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas has Filipino roots and fond of listening to Asin when he was in the Philippines during his childhood. Pendong Aban, one of the members of Asin, felt proud for the inclusion of "Balita" in Black Eyed Peas' album and the influence of Asin to Apl.de.ap's music.

Tatsulok

“ Tatsulok ” is a song of Filipino folk-rock band Buklod from their second album with the same name. The song tells about a boy named Totoy, who was a casualty of the Total War policy of then Philippine President Corazon Aquino during the late 1980s. Although the song refers to a real situation in the Philippines during that time (i.e. the effect US militarization), the boy is probably fictionalized to emphasize a point and to give hope to society’s inequality. The song opines that the battle is not between the reds (New People’s Army) and yellows (the Aquino government) and the true battle is combating the “ Tatsulok ”. “ Tatsulok ”, Tagalog word for Triangle, refers to the social structure in the Philippines where the elite is at the top and impoverish at the bottom, which, according to the song, the source of injustice and poverty. The song encourages Totoy to end the battle against poverty by inverting the triangle and place those poor people at the top. Filipino rock group Bam...

Maling Akala

" Maling Akala " comes from first commercially-released album, Ultraelectromagneticpop , of the now defunct 1990s "chopsuey" band The Eraserheads. In 2005, this was later revived by the reggae group Brownman Revival, which triggered renewed interest to The Eraserheads and prompted Sony BMG to release a tribute album to the band entitled Ultraelectromagneticjam . Brownman Revival's version is parodied by Joey de Leon's album Joey to the World 2 under the title " Maliit na Syota ".

Narda

According to an interview of the Filipino rock band Kamikazee, "Narda" talks about things or their aspirations that are impossible to fulfill and they did not composed it for the TV series Darna , although most of the song refers to the Darna mythos. The 5th verse seems to be a mistake or humor by Kamikazee because Ding is Narda's brother and not her love interest.

214

"214" is a song from the eponymous album of Rivermaya, a Filipino alternative rock band, where the former member of the band, Bamboo, was the lead vocalist. "214" derives from the first 3 words of the song "Am I Real" , which symbolizes the number of characters of those words (i.e. 2=Am, 1=I, 4=Real). Luke Mijares, former South Border lead vocalist, made a cover version of this song. 214 Am I real? Do the words I speak before you make you feel, that the love I lay for you will see no ending? Well if you look into my eyes then you should know, that there is nothing here to doubt, nothing to fear, and you can lay your questions down ‘cause if you’ll hold me we can fade into the night and you’ll know The world could die, and everything may lie, Still you shouldn't cry ‘Cause time may pass, but longer than it’ll last I’ll be by your side Take my hand, and gently close your eyes so you could understand that there’s no greater love tonight than what I’ve for...

Hold On

"Hold On" is a song by Filipino 1990s rock group Neocolours. In 2007, it was used by GMA Network in the Philippines as a theme song for the Korean drama Jumong , which sung by Shamrock, another rock group. Hold On Hey, baby, how's life been movin' on? I can't deny it, now you are gone This is the first time Can I make it through? Without you now, do the things I used to do It's getting harder to ease the pain The feeling changes, love still remains I don't know how if I can get this right Maybe given time I'll make the most of what I've got Is this the price we pay With all the good times we shared Faithfully, we've got a reason to go on I know it's good to be true Just spend the nights with you Let me tell you that our love can make it through Hold on, baby hold on We've got to go on now This feeling so strong Hold on, baby hold on It's a burning desire Comin' right down the wire Sweet talking it's all in the line There...

Bizarre Love Triangle

The 1980's British band New Order was the first to record this song on their album Brotherhood and regarded as one of their best singles. Other versions of this song were covered by various artists including Frente! in the 1990s and in 2005 by The Speaks, a Filipino-American Washington-based band. Bizarre Love Triangle Every time i think of you I feel a shot right through with a bolt of blue It's no problem of mine but it's a problem I find Living a life that I can't leave behind There's no sense in telling me The wisdom of a fool won't set you free But that's the way that it goes And it's what nobody knows While every day my confusion grows I feel fine and I feel good I'm feeling like I never should Whenever I get this way, I just don't know what to say Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday I'm not sure what this could mean I don't think you're what you seem I do admit to myself That if I hurt someone else Then I...
