Esem

"Esem" is a mid-1990s hit from Filipino rock group Yano, which is included on their eponymous album. The song is a reference to SM City North Edsa, the very first super mall established by SM Prime Holdings, in Quezon City, Philippines. This mall is one of the favorite tambayan (hangout) of some University of the Philippines students, which members of Yano (Dong Abay and Eric Gancio) belong.

In this song, they recount their experiences while loitering inside the mall without any money to buy things except for transportation fare and two cigarettes. It shows the true iskolar ng bayan (scholars of the nation), who strive hard to study with their little allowances.

Esem

Patingin-tingin, di naman makabili
Patingin-tingin, di makapanood ng sine
Walang ibang pera, kundi pamasahe
Nakayanan ko lang, pambili ng dalawang yosi

Pamoy-amoy, di naman makakain
Busog na sa tubig
Gutom nailipas din
Patuloy ang laboy
Walang iisipin
Kailangang magsaya, kailangang magpahangin

Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay
(Repeat)

Gumagabi na
Ako'y uuwi na
Tapos na ang saya
Balik sa problema
At bukas ng umaga
Uulitin ko pa ba ang kahibangang ito
Sa tingin ko hindi na

Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay

Nakakabaliw ang ganitong buhay
Di nakakaaliw ang ganitong buhay
Nakakabaliw ang ganitong buhay
Di nakakaaliw ang ganitong buhay

No...oh...no...oh...no...oh...no...oh

Laklak

" Laklak " is an alternative rock song by Filipino band Teeth. The song is included in their double-platinum eponymous album in 1995. " Laklak " reached number 1 for 12 weeks in LA-105, a former alternative rock station in Manila, and was voted as Song of the Year at 1995 NU 107 Rock Awards. "Laklak" was re-recorded to fit the mainstream audience. The lyrics of the song are somewhat controversial because it talks about alcoholism in the youth. Although, it can also viewed as a way to avoid alcoholism because the song shows how too much drinking can make a person looked like a police who has a big tummy. In 2002, a cover version by Gloc 9 and Dong Abay is included in the soundtrack of Videoke King , a Filipino film, which stars Robin Padilla and Pops Fernandez. This version of "Laklak" is included in the self-titled album of Gloc 9. Laklak Nagsimula sa patikimtikim Pinilit kong gustuhin Bisyo'y nagsimulang lumalim Kaya ngayon ang hirap t...

Kaleidoscope World

"Kaleidoscope World" is rap song by Filipino rapper Francis M. from the album Freeman that was released in 1995. In the unrehearsed introduction of this hit from the Master Rapper, he sucked a helium-filled balloon and offered some of it to his daughter Maxene Magalona. Paying homage to The Beatles 1966 song "Here, There & Everywhere", this hit features three distinct guitarists - Perf De Castro of Rivermaya, Olrac and Noel Mendez and, in 1995, won an Awit award for "Best Produced Record" of the year. The song tackles on diversity amongst people, which have different social status, physical features, opinions, preferences etc. It compares those differences to a toy called kaleidoscope that even if there are different colors and hues, it still a “beautiful view”, implying that we should respect each other differences and freedoms. In 2004, Francis M collaborated with Pinoy Rock group Parokya ni Edgar in the live album Inuman Sessions Vol. 1 ., and rappe...
