"99 Luftballons" is an early 1980s one-hit wonder in the US and UK by a German band called Nena and it is considered as a protest song for the Cold War. This song, originally written in German, was re-recorded in English as "99 Red Balloons" that is not a direct German translation of the original version. Both versions of the song tell a story of ninety-nine balloons being released in the air, where international governments confused these objects with fighter planes, which triggers war.
