With or Without You

"With or Without You" is a 1987 song by Irish rock band U2 from the album Joshua Tree. It was their first single to be released on a CD. Being one of their most famous songs, it landed on the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it their first American hit.

Bono, U2’s front man, explained that "With or Without You" was greatly influenced by the album Climate of Hunter by Scott Walker. The song generally talks about a relationship between two people but some people argue that this song is about God.

Several artists have covered this song, making it the second most covered U2 song.

With or Without You

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side.
I wait for you.
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you

With or without you
With or without you.

Through the storm, we reach the shore
You gave it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you.
I can't live with or without you.

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give, and you give
And you give yourself away.

My hands are tied, my body bruised
She got me with nothing to win
And nothing else to lose.

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give, and you give
And you give yourself away.

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you.

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
With or without you.
